Be My Parent is a UK-wide family-finding service provided by the British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF). BAAF is the leading membership organisation for all those concerned with adoption, fostering and child care issues in the UK.
BAAF believes that all children have the right to a secure and loving family of their own. BAAF's beliefs
Through its publications and services, Be My Parent aims to help match waiting children with adoptive and permanent foster families across the UK, as well as raise awareness about adoption and fostering issues, and encourage more people to consider adopting or fostering a child.
The history of Be My Parent
Be My Parent began in 1980 as a book featuring photographs and brief profile details of children waiting for adoptive and permanent foster families. Over time, it evolved into a black and white newspaper, published six times a year and now the Be My Parent newspaper is a monthly, full-colour publication covering the whole of the UK. News and Features pages accompany the paper six times a year, and contain articles and general information about adoption and fostering, including real-life stories from professionals, families and children. Read Be My Parent features.
Research into developing a family-finding website began in 2004 with the Finding Families for Children (FF4C) project, funded by The Big Lottery. Additional Big Lottery funding was granted in 2005 to develop this website.
