What's it like to be adopted?
Children speak about their experience of being adopted
I am with a good new family. We do great things together like going on outings. I feel happier and safer because I know that Mum and Dad are always there for me. I still feel homesick when I am away from my forever mum and dad but I know that’s alright. I am glad that I get to see my other sister so I can see her grow up.
Harriet (age 11)
Being adopted is great because you know who you are with a family who cares for you and loves you very much. I know it may be hard to leave your parents but you know they can’t look after you, but they can write to you and they will always love you.
Rebecca Glazier (age 11)
To be adopted is a really special thing. For instance, you will have the best time of your life with your new parents, you will do lots more things than you used to, and you will have to have some ground rules, like keep the house clean, do your homework, no back chat and don’t pull faces at them, do as you’re told. Play outside on warm days not coming inside, help your parents pick up stuff, and do family stuff all together.
