Diljeet and Palbinder
aged 39 and 38
DILJEET & PALBINDER are a married couple with a strong sense of family unity and identity, who live with their two sons and two daughters in a large Victorian house with two spare bedrooms. They live in a large town, only minutes away from local amenities. The local school is just eight minutes’ walk from their home, and their GP and dentist is a short drive away.
Diljeet and Palbinder are a modern and traditional Sikh couple who both speak fluent English and Punjabi. They visit the Gurdwara, a Sikh place of worship, every Sunday, and their children attend on Fridays to learn Punjabi. Diljeet and Palbinder have lived in Britain all their lives.
Diljeet and Palbinder have a wealth of knowledge from bringing up their own family and this, coupled with Palbinder’s job, means that they have a good understanding of the needs of looked after children. Over the last year, they have both gained invaluable experience as carers by providing regular respite breaks for two individual young people, both White British. As well as being approved permanent foster carers, Diljeet and Palbinder are also able to provide short-term, respite and bridging placements. They have completed courses on the Foundations to Fostering, Dealing with Challenging Behaviour, Attachment Theory, and Equality & Diversity.
DILJEET is a warm, friendly person who enjoys spending time with the family. He likes doing DIY, listening to music and playing ten-pin bowling. Diljeet is currently training to be an electrician and will work flexible hours so he can give priority to any children placed with them.
PALBINDER is a sensible, caring and organised woman. She likes cooking for her family and friends, sewing, painting and decorating, and going to the gym. Palbinder has worked as a local authority adoption social worker since 1990, and has a wealth of experience with looked after children.
