JEANETTE is a sociable woman with a range of interests, which include cooking, playing music, going to the cinema and walking. She lives in a comfortable three-bedroomed house with a garden in a multicultural area of north London. Jeanette’s local area includes several good schools, medical centres/health centres, shops and public transport links. There are lots of nearby large parks and areas for children to explore and play in. Jeanette also owns a car and can drive.

Jeanette is a healthy single carer with a strong support network of both male and female friends, several of whom have children, including foster or adopted children. As well as her wide circle of friends, she has good friendships with her neighbours. Jeanette has relevant childcare experience as she plays a significant role in the lives of her friends’ children. She is child centred and, with her background in social care, as well as her employment as a university lecturer in social care, she has a deep understanding and insight into the emotional needs of adopted children.

Jeanette will take adoption leave so that any child placed with her has time to settle in. She would then be able to work flexible hours. Jeanette is happy to facilitate both direct and indirect contact with birth family members and significant people in a child’s life. She would consider a child from a range of backgrounds, including those who have experienced neglect or abuse, or where there is a history of mental ill-health. Jeanette understands that many looked after children have had a difficult start in life, and there may be some uncertainty around their future development.

Jeanette has a positive sense of her identity, and describes herself as ‘culturally Jewish’. She would celebrate Jewish holidays with a child placed with her, but is also open to celebrating other religious holidays, such as Christmas, Easter, and so on. Jeanette does not attend Synagogue regularly, and would support a child’s religious faith even if this was different from Judaism.

Jeanette would provide a stimulating environment and be a warm, thoughtful and sensitive adoptive parent, able to offer a nurturing and stable family life.
