If you want to find out more about adoption or fostering, why not speak to other prospective parents or those who have successfully adopted or fostered, or go along to an information session offered by an agency in your area? You can also read our features. Many of the issues that may come up during your journey to become a parent will have come up many times before. You may find it helpful to meet others who have had similar experiences and to talk about how they coped.

People who are awaiting approval or waiting to be matched with a child often find it helps to meet families who have completed the process and successfully adopted. This can help to reassure you that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

It is a good idea to read as much as you can about adoption and fostering so you are prepared and know what to expect. BAAF publishes a number of books and factsheets and provides an advice service to prospective adopters and foster carers. When you are ready to call your adoption or fostering agency be prepared to answer a few questions about yourself, your family, and your circumstances.
