What does adoption mean to you?
As part of National Adoption Week 2011, some adults with experience of adoption reflect on what adoption means to them.

“Without adoption I wouldn’t be a parent, and although it’s been the most challenging and stretching experience of my life, I cannot imagine life without my wonderful, precious child.”
Frances, adoptive parent
“Adoption to me means a real family to belong to, with love and security and acceptance for who I am, through the good and the bad.”
Deborah, adopted adult
“Adoption to me means unconditional love, openness, mutual respect and because of my adoption I have the most beautiful parents and family any child adopted or not could possibly wish for!”
Maria, adopted adult
“Adoption means having a sister who I love to bits – someone who shares the same mum and dad, even though we were born in different families.”
Mary, adult with an adopted sister
“Adoption is part of what makes me who I am today. The decisions made by others when I was too young to know, were the best outcome for me!”
Jackie, adopted adult
