JULIA, PETER & JAKE are a very close-knit family. They enjoy going on foreign holidays, to the cinema and to ice hockey matches together. Because Julia is an animal lover, they have a number of pets! The family currently own two placid dogs, called Cassie and Sally, and three friendly cats, called Inca, Missy, and Herbie.

The family live in a three-bedroomed house in a busy town, near the coast, in north-east England, with very good access to a high level of local amenities. It is within easy travelling distance of Sunderland, Newcastle and Durham. The couple own a car and there are also excellent public transport links.

Julia and Peter are a warm, friendly and contented couple who are at ease with one another. They have a close relationship. Julia and Peter share strong caring values, and are also able to provide good structure and boundaries. They present as calm and relaxed people, with a good sense of humour, who cope with life’s challenges. Julia and Peter have an excellent relationship with their adopted son, Jake. Jake is a pleasant, humorous child who enjoys the company of other children.

Jake has a mild form of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which is well controlled with medication. Julia and Peter are resilient by nature, and have shown that they are able to cope with any difficult behaviours. However, Jake has made considerable progress since he was placed with the couple. He presents as a happy, contented child who is very settled with his adoptive parents. He is doing well at school and is popular among his peers.

Julia has experience of working with disabled children and adults. Over the years, she has provided one-to-one support to adults with autism. Peter also has a brother who is autistic. Julia and Peter have also provided two short-break placements to disabled children, and have fostering experience of children with mild, moderate and severe learning disabilities. Since Peter works in the electronics industry and Julia is not in paid employment, she would be the main carer for any child placed with them.

Julia and Peter have an extensive support network, all of whom are aware of the couple’s wish to offer a disabled child a permanent placement, and are prepared to offer their ongoing support. The couple have also involved Jake in their decision, and he is looking forward to having a disabled child permanently join the family.
