Although 168 families, couples and single people became foster carers in the county last year, there is still a shortage in Kent, especially carers for older children and teens, sibling groups and children with disabilities.

Fostering is a paid role, and age and experience are not a barrier. Foster carers are fully trained and supported throughout their time fostering with Kent County Council and there are plenty of opportunities to meet with other foster carers.

There are regular Information Sessions for new foster carers and Kent County Council urge anyone who believes they have the space in their homes and lives for vulnerable children to come and find out more. These sessions will also provide an opportunity to hear more about what it means to be a foster carer and hear experiences of foster carers first hand.
